happy halloween!!!

Last night I successfully followed a German tutorial on making granny circles, and this is what I came up with. I'm really happy with the way it turned out :) You can view the tutorial here.

I'm not doing anything for Halloween this year (sadface). I'm just not feeling up to it. I live on a really busy street, so kids don't trick or treat here, either. Tonight I'm just going to curl up on my couch in my pjs and crochet while watching movies.

I hope you are all having a great day!!

Oh! And I almost forgot... I have been trying repeatedly without any luck to crochet a flower. I have tried Katja's tutorial, this video tutorial on Little Birdie Secrets and I simply can't get it. I end up with this horribly misshapen little lump of yarn that resembles nothing remotely similar to a flower. What I seem to be confused about is how you do 3 double crochets into the same stitch. I don't understand where this "stitch" is, exactly, and I think I am doing them in the wrong place. If anyone knows an easier tutorial, please send it my way!

rain, rain go away

I am definitely fighting the urge to order myself a pair of the new TOMS shoes. Grey is my favorite color to wear, and these look like they actually have some arch support to them (which is what kept me from ordering a pair of the original TOMS). These will be on my Christmas wishlist, for sure :)

I received my package from Alexz last week, but I am just now getting around to mentioning that (I am a bad blogger!!). The pouch is so cute, and very well made. I love it, and I'll definitely be visiting her shop again sometime in the near future.

I finished the second Sookie Stackhouse novel this morning, and I can't wait to start reading the next one (I already have it, haha). I must say, I am starting to grow more and more fond of Eric the more often he shows up in the story. Sorry to say, but I kind of like him more than Bill. We'll see...

I've been working on a couple of crocheted items this weekend. I went on a little yarn shopping spree to get a few colors I'd been wanting, and some more yarn for the blanket I'm (trying) to make for my mom.

I felt like I got pretty far, but when I look at the meager pile of granny squares I've made thus far, I realize I've got a lot more to go!!!

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I'm trying to, despite all of this rain. I've been off for the past few days from work, and I have off until Tuesday, so I'm enjoying this time to relax and do what I want for a change. It's going to pass by far too quickly, though, I'm sure!

blue monday

Ugh, I hate Mondays. I wish I could have slept in today, but duty calls (doesn't it always?).

I finished the first Sookie Stackhouse novel, and I went out last night after work to buy the second book. I am really excited to start reading it tonight. I thought the book started out kind of slow, but once it got going, I couldn't put it down! And I already have the 3rd book, so I'll be all set to keep moving for a while (or a few days... haha).

I'm a little bit tempted to start watching True Blood, but I think maybe I'll finish all of the books before I start watching it. Movies/TV shows always seem to ruin books for me. I used to love Twilight, but now that it's like... everywhere.... I am SO sick of hearing about it. The books were good. Yeah, I get it. But seriously, people... they aren't THE best books that were ever written. Calm down. Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now :P

I'm working on a little Halloween-ish type of playlist for you guys. I have most of the songs picked out already, but I am still making a few adjustments. So, be on the look out for that later on this week.

To my friends who crochet: Do you know of any easy to follow tutorials on how to crochet mittens?? I really want to learn how to do it, but it seems like all the tutorials I find are for knitting (which I totally cannot do!). Help!!

These are sooo cute :)

And I'm sure everyone and their mother have seen this picture from Glamour magazine. Can I just say that I love this? It is so refreshing to see some women who are my size in a magazine. I don't really obsess over my size as much as I used to, but I definitely feel self-conscious at times. I definitely admire these women for not being afraid to show the world that being curvy is most definitely okay, and even sexy.

I am so excited to be receiving two packages sometime in the very near future:

This extremely adorable fawn pouch from Alexz (Bird Trouble).

I don't know if I am going to use it for a pencil case yet... I'm thinking a make-up bag. I need one of those... But the lace and the fawns are so cute, I had to have this :)

These beautiful bowls from Jill's store (Lune Vintage). I am constantly looking out for charming little decorations and knicknacks for my future apartment. These were just too lovely to pass up!

I hope you all had a great weekend :)

adventureland

This weekend I watched Adventureland. I had never heard of this movie, actually, but my sister rented it and made me watch it with her. It was really good! If you are in the mood to see a movie with a really awesome soundtrack (especially if you like 80's music!), a cute love story and lots of humor, this is a great pick!

I actually was kind of turned off by the fact that Kristen Stewart was in it, but I was willing to give it a chance anyway. I blame her partially for the horrifyingly annoying hoopla about Twilight (yeah, the books are good people... but come ON!), but I guess it isn't really her fault people are nuts. She was really good in this film. And her interaction with the main character really reminded me of me and my boyfriend. It was cute :)

Watch it, let me know what you think!

happy saturday

Hey everyone, how are your weekends going? I am having a nice weekend so far. Tuesday I learned how to crochet a granny square with my mom's friend Lu. I am sooo excited, and I can't stop thinking about making more.

This was my first attempt at making a square without the watchful instruction of Lu...

But I quickly realize what I was doing wrong, and did much better the next time around...

My mom wants me to make her a blanket, so yesterday I went out and bought some yarn in pretty colors to start making it.

It's dark purple, teal and chocolate brown. I was going for the 'peacock' look. The purple and the brown are more different looking in person. It looks pretty :)

Today I received a package in the mail without any sender on the outside. I was excited and I quickly tore the package open to reveal a gift from Kotex. Samples of pads and tampons. Thanks I guess? I've got no clue why they sent these to me!! Haha!

I had a 40% off coupon for Borders, so I used it to buy the first and third Sookie Stackhouse novels (they didn't have the second one :[ ), as recommended by Chelsey. I can't wait to start them!!

Aren't these the cutest things you have ever seen? I kind of think that I need one.

eureka!

Last night I finally figured out how to crochet a scarf, and I've been going nuts with it ever since. Here's a picture of what I've finished so far:

So, I am super excited and happy about it :) It's not perfect, but it's my first time making something, so I think I'm doing pretty well with it. Tonight I'm going to Lu's house to learn how to make a granny square :D I think I'm going to become addicted to it, just like everyone else seems to be.

Also, here is some exciting mail that I received yesterday:

I bought this sugar scrub from a little store called A Place On Earth, and it smells sooooo delicious that I want to eat my hands off every time I use it. The store smelled amazing! I wish I lived closer to it so I could go to it every day, but at least they have a website so I can always order more coconut ice sugar scrub. They also had another scent called Monkey Farts, which I found hilarious. It smells like bananas =P

Also, can I just tell you that this candle smells amaaaaaaaaaaaazing? Love it! I know it's autumn and I should totally be lighting my spiced pumpkin candle, but I can't get over this Pineapple Orchid one.

tgif!!

Finally, it's Friday! I am so ready for it to be the weekend, you have no idea. The only problem is, I am working Saturday AND Sunday. Why do I do this to myself? I am a madwoman, that is why. I just really need the money.

I got the chance to make a little origami turtle tutorial for Deb, so I am posting that here.

Hopefully that helps. I'm sorry that my hand kept getting in the way of the view! My sister was manning the camera, so I assumed she would hold it in a place that would have a good line of sight, but she kept holding it behind my hand =\ Well, I can try to remake the video if you need to see a certain part better, just let me know!

All of the paper I use is from this company (for the most part) Jong Ie Nara (no, I don't know what that means! If you do, tell me =P ). The paper is all really colorful and pretty, and it's cheap, too!

(these are a few other things I know how to make :] )

Tuesday night I am having crochet lessons from one of my mom's friends, Lu. I am so happy I finally found someone who lives near me who actually knows how to crochet :) I'm tired of trying to figure out the videos I see online, they're just confusing me even more. I'm excited :D I'll let you know how it goes!

When I learn how to crochet I want to learn how to make amigurumis! Aren't they the cutest thing you have ever seen in your life???

(Gourmet Amigurumi)

I hope everyone has a great weekend :) What are you guys doing?
