cozy

I was bored this afternoon, so I decided to experiment in making a coffee cup cozy. I used a soft, chocolate brown yarn and just crocheted a little rectangle that was large enough to wrap around the cup. After that, I thought it looked kind of boring, so I crocheted a cute little scalloped edge across the top of it. I added a cute baby blue button, and it was finished.

I think it turned out pretty, don't you? :)

I wish I could crawl into any one of these pictures and go to sleep right now!

It seems like an alcove would be the best addition to any room... look how cute this kitchen alcove is:

(source unknown... anyone know where this is from?)

I would LOVE to have this in my house someday...

iiiit's beginning to look a lot like...

Christmas!!!

Yay! :) I am really excited about it this year, because I've been finding all kinds of awesome tutorials online about how to make different Christmas ornaments and decorations. I've haven't made a Christmas ornament since the macaroni angels and pipe cleaner candy canes of kindergarten =P

Here's a little look at some of the things I've been up to lately...

I found a tutorial for this totally awesome wreath on the blog of the lovely Miss James. I hadn't ever made pompoms before, so it was something cool to learn! I apologize for the poor lighting in the photo, I had to use the camera flash because it's gross and rainy out.

I found those cute little birds on a display by the ornament section at Michael's. I was looking for something pretty to nestle in my wreath, and I thought they were perfect :) I love their curly feathers :) It took me about 5 hours total from start to finish to make this, but I think it was worth it. My mom likes it, and she hung it up in the living room... but moms always have to like their kids' "art projects" haha.

After I finished making the wreath, I had a little bit of yarn left over, and I was thinking, hmmm... what can I make with it? I decided to try making a simple bracelet, and I think it ended up looking kind of cute. What do you think?

While I was in Michael's looking for yarn, I spotted this little cutie on a display of fake Christmas trees. I tried to talk myself out of it, but he ended up coming home with me. Who wouldn't want this white baby tree covered in sparkly twinkly lights? It makes me smile when I have it on, and the little lights are shining across the room at me. So cute! :) I started working on making a couple of little ornaments for it already....

I made another crochet star, and a few little pom poms from colorful yarn. I think maybe I'll turn it into a countdown tree. I remember having one of those in my classroom in elementary school and everyone got a turn to put an ornament on it every day in December so it would be completely decorated right before winter break. It was a really fun and festive activity for the month, I thought.

This is a big granny square I started working on, out of frustration against my mom's afghan. I feel like I'm making some headway, then I count the squares and I am like... Gahhh, I will never finish this blanket!!

Maybe I should just make her a huge granny square that she can use for a blanket. I don't know anymore =\ I never have enough time to make a lot of them with work and school. Blah.

I hope that everyone has a lovely Thanksgiving, and I apologize for being MIA for a while... things are crazy-busy around here for me. I promise I'll try to update a little more for my little group of readers that I actually have =P

Oh... and before I forget to mention it... I am going to start working on Katja's secret project this weekend. I need my little sister to teach me how to work the sewing machine (she took a home ec class last year, haha!). I'm excited! It's really fun, and you should try it, too and show me what you make!

ask me anything!

I have known a few of my bloggy friends to do this in the past, and I decided it's my turn :)

I want to do a video blog interview, and I need you guys to ask me a couple of questions! I think it could be fun if everyone does one of these. Just leave a comment asking me anything you'd like to know about me, or anything you'd like to see! I'm not shy, and I am sure I'll answer pretty much anything, so go ahead!!

(me in my school uniform!)

I promise I will be back on Friday with an actual update. I've been super busy with work and school. We're doing the radiology portion of my course, and it is the most complicated, challenging work ever. If I pass, I will get down on my knees and praise the gods of radiology.

I hope everyone is having a great week!! :)

oh my star(s)!

Here's my attempt at making one of those stars I showed you guys in the previous post. It took me a little while to get it to be like this, and I don't think it's completely right yet, but it's good so far!

I think I'm gonna get some red and green yarn so that I can make Christmas ornaments out of these :) Did anyone else try it yet? How did they turn out? I wanna see!

I've been so tired lately and now I just woke up from a three hour nap. I have been so stressed lately and tired. I really can't wait to be finished with school (my last day is February 15th!) and I will be moving down south finally! The time can't come soon enough!

I can't wait to be with him!! <3 Hehe

sunday loves

Today I went to Peddler's Village with my mom and sister. It was such a cute little place, but it was sooo crowded. I would love to go back again one day when there are less people there. My favorite store was Journey's Spirited Gifts because it's one of those types of stores that I typically like... you know, with incense, candles, books about new age religions, aromatherapy and tarot cards. Right up my alley :) I got some really pretty little candle holders... this is one of them:

sorry about the poor quality, I took this with my iphone!

Here are a couple of things that I am loving today:

Granny stars!!! I think I can tell what she did to make these, and I am definitely going to get some green and red yarn to make Christmas ornaments out of these! How adorable would that be? :)

(sarah london textiles)

These soft trees that Elsie posted about. The pattern to make them can be found here. I would love to make a little forest of these someday. I just need to learn how to work a sewing machine first... haha!

My new sneakers! I love Kangaroos sneakers because the kangaroo is cute, and they are soooo comfortable. Having comfortable sneakers is really important for me because I have RA, and I am on my feet the entire time I am at work... so my poor feet hurt! These definitely help :)
The playlist on Bleubird Vintage's blog. So nice... some of my old favorite songs, and a few new ones as well.

I am almost finished my scarf, so I will post pictures of that soon. Also, I have 20 grannies done for my mom's blanket (only 20!! Ughhhhh this is going to take foreverrrrr! Why didn't I make her a scarf, too??)

Tomorrow and Tuesday I have both school and work all day long, so I am going to have a looooong day. I hope I can survive! Hehe. I hope everyone had a great weekend :)

bella

Bella - Angus & Julia Stone

I can't stop listening to this song today... so beautiful :)

(via bleubird vintage)

I love tattoos, and I plan on getting more as soon as money permits. I have been wanting to get a tattoo with Cade, but it's so hard for me to make up my mind about what we should get. The one that keeps coming back to mind is that we each get a puzzle piece in shapes that would fit together. Whatever it is, I'm sure we will love it, though. But that is for another time... I am supposed to be saving money =P

downtime

I had an epically short day in school (I took my exam in 20 minutes and hightailed it out of there!), so I am at home waiting to go to work today. I decided to do another survey, which I found here, on Mandi's blog. I love her blog, I just recently found it and it's great

This is an old photo I took when I was a freshman. I still love it :)

1. Please share one middle school memory. It can be good, bad, ugly, funny. Pictures or words, I don't care, just share.
In my very young years, I used to sit outside with my best friend and rip huge leaves off of this big tree. We would fill the leaves with meat (dirt), lettuce, (smaller leaves), herbs (onion grass), and special sauce (spit), and roll them into burritos. We would just make piles of them and try to give them away to people. I wonder why no one ever took one :O

2. What's your favorite Beatles song?
Two of Us. I love it so much.

Two of us sending postcards
Writing letters
On my wall
You and me burning matches
Lifting latches
On our way back home
We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

You and I have memories
Longer than the road that stretches out ahead

3. If I asked you to describe your most comfortable outfit, what would it be?
My PJs of course! I love my mexican patterned fleece pants I bought from the men's department at Kohl's. I wear them as often as I can :)

4. Would you rather host a party or be a guest?
I honestly don't really like parties, but if I had to choose, I'd be the guest. Every time I've ever hosted a party I've never had fun because I was so worried that there wasn't enough food, or space or fun going on for the people there.

5. Do you think we will move completely from traditional books to digital ones, and if we do, are you OK with that?
I imagine that we will eventually move completely to digital books, which would be a shame. It WOULD be very good for the environment as far as paper goes, but nothing is better than opening a new book and smelling the pages... or am I the only one that does this?! Haha.

6. Do you learn best by reading, listening or experiencing?
I need a little bit of all three, in that order, usually. Then I pretty much never forget it. I have a VERY good memory. Especially for names, languages and step-by-step methods.

7. If you are (or when you were) single, what is the kiss of death for you concerning the opposite sex? (That is, what is one trait or behavior or habit or anything at all that immediately turns you off from considering that person a potential match for you?)
Being obsessed with sports, or being cocky. Which, funny enough, seems to go hand in hand. Hmmmmm?

8. Snacks. Salty or sweet?
Salty for sure... bring on the potato chips!

9. Look around you in a four foot radius. What object is around you that you didn't realize was there or forgot was there? How long has it been there?
My cat, Punkin. I don't know when she got in here, but she is sleeping on the floor.

10. What is your favorite Tom Cruise movie?
Honestly, I don't care for Tom Cruise in the least. His daughter is SO cute though!

11. You buy a bottle of shampoo and discover that you don't like what it does to your hair at all. What do you do with that full bottle?
It gets sanctioned off to the Cabinet of Misfit Products, along with all the face washes, hair sprays and other accouterments that I deemed unworthy.

12. Your favorite Fall comfort food?
Broccoli and cheddar soup from Panera, in a bread bowl, please! Mmmm... it's my all year comfort food.

q & a

I've seen a few blogs post this survey, and I can't ever resist a good survey. Here's mine :)

1. Where is your cell phone:

right in front of me, as always. I feel sick when I don't know where it is... it's pathetic, I tell you...

2. Your hair:

basically looks the same, 24/7. like this...

3. Your mother:

is very intuitive. She is extremely sarcastic, like me. I love her :)

is really funny, and the hardest worker I know. His birthday is tomorrow! I love him :)

This is my parents...

Notice how my dad subtly shows his enthusiasm at having his photo taken.

5. Your favorite food:

Anything with pasta in it. I could eat Kraft Macaroni and Cheese or Ramen for every meal, I swear.

6. Your dream from last night:

I honestly can't remember my dreams very often. When I do remember them, they were usually a nightmare.

7. Your favorite drink:

I adore chai tea lattes (preferably Starbucks!), earl grey tea, english breakfast tea (hmmm... I sense a pattern here), iced tea with lemon and an occasional Amp Energy drink.

8. Your dream/goal:

for the very near future, it's to move to Louisiana and start my life with Cade and begin my career. For the distant future, I'd like to possibly start my own business... but that would be way, way, waaaay in the future.

9. What room are you in:
I'm in my bedroom, which is where you will most likely find me when I'm home (which is always... unless I'm at school or work)

10. What is your hobby:

lately I've been reading, crocheting, playing world of warcraft and drawing a lot.

11. What is your fear:

21. Your friends:

are few, but very precious.

22. Your life:

is just getting started!!

23. Your mood:

tired.

24. Missing someone:

every single day. The two people I care most about in the world are thousands of miles away from me.

25. Vehicle:

is a white 1998 Kia Sportage that is filthy and covered in dents. I love that car... but I would love a new one someday... haha.

26. Something you’re not wearing:

shoes.

27. Your favorite store:

Hmmm... good question. Most recently it's been Michael's and the Bookstore. As far as clothes go, it's got to be Delia's.

28. Your favorite color:

my most favorite colors to wear are purple and brown. Lately I have been loving the combination of aqua and white, though...

29. When’s the last time you laughed:

a few minutes ago when talking to my mom.

30. When’s the last time you cried:

I cry all the time... pretty much every day, about stupid things. Like for instance, this afternoon when I was driving home from school I saw a dead dog on the side of the road and I cried a little. I am too emotional.

31. Your best friend:

es lo mejor!

32. One place you go over and over:

School and work, school and work, school and work...

I really have been craving some Chipotle the past few days...

35. Where do you want to be in 6 years:

Hopefully Cade and I will have moved back to Pennsylvania, and live in our own house :)

Also, I just wanted to say thank you to Jill.
I got my package today, and the plates are beautiful!! I love them :) I can't wait to decorate my apartment with them very soon!

I am really excited about Katja's upcoming online class! I think I might buy myself a spot as a birthday gift, because it begins on January 18th, and my birthday is the next day. I'm excited, all the projects look so cute so far!! She is hosting a giveaway for one lucky person to win a spot in her class, so go enter now!

I had a fruit party today! :)

I decided to take a bunch of pictures of it haha.
I have nothing interesting to say... hope you're having a wonderful afternoon!
