sarah's key

Last week my mom sent me 3 (!!) packages in the mail, as sort of a "Happy Summer!" gift :) In one of the packages, she sent me 4 books that I hadn't heard much about, so I was really excited to get started on them right away. Last night I finished the first book, which was Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay.

Without giving too much away, the story is told from two points of view throughout most of the book. One half is told about a little girl named Sarah living in occupied France during the 40's. She and her parents are taken to a concentration camp by the French police under German orders. She locks her little brother in a cupboard in their house to keep him safe and promises to come back for him later that day.
The other half of the story is set in modern time, and it's about a woman name Julie that finds out a secret connection that she has to Sarah, the little Jewish girl from the 40's.

I thought the book was really really good, and I couldn't put it down the whole time I was reading it. It did make me cry a couple of times, it was so sad. But I enjoyed it. If you liked the Diary of Anne Frank, or the Devil's Arithmetic, you will like this book a lot!
